r.i.p. Susan Cordaro - May 5, 2006

A dear friend of ours here at andrewlight.com lost her battle with pancreatic cancer today, leaving behind her husband, Leonard, and three children, Melissa, Christie, and Jason. Your prayers and thoughts for her family are appreciated.

Susan was a lovely, graceful, caring woman who meant the world to her friends and family, and whose courage and dignity during her harrowing ordeal with pancreatic cancer will stand as a model of human grace and strength. After being diagnosed with cancer she lived six times longer than the doctors told her she would, due in equal parts to her spirit and her husband Leonard's refusal to accept this diagnosis - he searched long and hard and found a Dr. Robert Fine of Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, whose pioneering GTX treatment is one of the few bright hopes for the future for those with this disease. Sometimes it saves lives outright; sometimes it extends the life of the cancer patient much longer than previously diagnosed. Either way, this new treatment is very important. Susan dedicated a lot of her time and energy in the past year to promoting awareness of pancreatic cancer, and Dr. Fine's GTX treatment.

Susan was truly a luminous spirit who loved life and the outdoors, spending time with family, exercising, and travel. We will all miss her gentle disposition, her quiet charm, and her warm smile that could touch you from across the room.

Please join me in raising a glass to the memory of Susan Cordaro, a truly beautiful soul who will be sorely missed.

A great quote about the struggle of all musicians, by one of my favorite musicians of all time...

The true musician (by Erik Satie)

He grows in wisdom...He is brilliant...He learns to do without

and is prepared to make great sacrifices...enormous sacrifices...

if I may say...His energy is tremendous...

In other words he is prepared for the struggle...and with honesty he shall fight it...

The performance of an Art demands complete self-denial...

...It was not meant as a joke what I just said...about sacrifices...

The Music makes heavy demands upon those who want to

devote themselves in it...This is what I have wanted you to call your attention to...

A true musician must subordinate himself to his Art; ...he must place himself above human suffering; ...he must draw courage from within...and only from within.
